Plyometric Training is training that involves taking advantage of the body’s natural stretch reflexes, within its muscles, to produce a maximum amount of force in a minimum amount of time. This type of training utilizes a natural protective mechanism in the body, called the stretch-shortening cycle, to help develop explosive strength and power in the muscles. Two main pieces of equipment are used for Soccer Fitness Plyometric Training:
- Power Plyo Boxes and Plyometric Platform
- Noramco HS Elite High Speed Running Treadmill (we are the only facility in North America to use one)
Using this unique and exclusive equipment, our Plyometric Training protocols have been designed to improve the following components of fitness:
- Explosive power in the lower extremity
- Dynamic core stability in the trunk and pelvic muscles
Plyometric Training sessions are delivered in conjunction with Treadmill Training sessions, in 8-, 16-, 24- and 32-week programs, which comprise the entire soccer off-season from October to May. This training can also be done during the soccer season, in 8- and 16-week maintenance programs, designed to help athletes maintain all of the endurance, speed and power they develop during the off-season. The programs are age-appropriate and periodized based on the power output for each particular workout. Sessions are all 1 hour in length, and athletes train in groups of 1-5, and each group works with a specific trainer for the duration of the session.
