The Soccer Fitness Treadmill Protocols were written and developed using data from elite, soccer-specific, high performance training centres from around the world. All Soccer Fitness Treadmill Training sessions have been designed for use with the revolutionary Woodway Pro-XL high speed running treadmill (we are the only facility in Canada to use one).
The Soccer Fitness Treadmill Training protocols were designed to aid the athlete in the following three areas of performance:
- Developing a coordination and running style which enables the athlete to maximize propulsive forces, and minimize breaking forces
- Teaching proper total-body coordination and running mechanics for high speed and sprint running
- Training and improving recovery between high intensity exercise, which has been shown to be the most important predictor of performance in soccer
Treadmill training at Soccer Fitness is able to accomplish these goals through a unique combination of spotted level running and incline sprints, with closely controlled work-to-rest ratios.
Treadmill Training sessions are delivered in conjunction with Plyometric Training sessions, in 8-, 16-, 24- and 32-week programs, which comprise the entire soccer off-season from October to May. This training can also be done during the soccer season, in 8- and 16-week maintenance programs, designed to help athletes maintain al of the endurance, speed and power they develop during the off-season. The programs are age-appropriate and periodized based on the power output for each particular workout. Sessions are all 1 hour in length, and athletes train in groups of 1-5, and each group works with a specific trainer for the duration of the session.
